This is the official mobile app for the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests focused on outdoor recreation information. Intended for anyone who visits Georgia’s two national forests, the app is equally useful for people who regularly visit the forest and those who are exploring the forest for the first time. Now you can have all the information you need in the palm of your hand to help you navigate and experience Georgia’s two national forests. This FREE app includes 48 recreation sites and provides information about their facilities and opportunities for hiking, camping, picnicking, fishing, swimming, boating, off-roading, horseback riding, mountain biking, and sightseeing. The app is free and is available for Apple and Android smartphones and tablets.

Features

  • Features of the app include:
    A slidable row of activity icons - Select the icons for the activities that interest you and the app will display the recreation sites that offer the combination of activities you have chosen.
  • Interactive map – Recreation sites are shown as markers based on the combination of icons you choose in the activity slider.  Icons at the top of the screen allow you to clear your activity selections and re-center the map.
  • List view – Recreation sites can also be viewed as a scrollable list that can be filtered by activities and sorted alphabetically.
  • News & Information – Stay informed about current forest news, events and alerts.
  • Recreation site details – A variety of information and tools are available for each rec site:
    • Photographs
    • Site descriptions including amenities, hours, fees and directions
    • Latitude and longitude coordinates linked to an interactive map
    • Phone numbers for emergency help and more information
    • Navigation and turn-by-turn directions to each site (GPS equipped device and Internet connection required)
    • Share your favorite sites with your Facebook friends and Twitter followers
    • Answers to the questions most often asked -- the things to know before you go

Android smart phones and tablets running version 2.3.3 and higher of the Android operating system.
Apple iOS devices:  iPad 1, iPad 2, New iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 running version 5.1 and higher of the Apple mobile operating system.

GPS and Navigation Requirements

Some portions of the base map are saved in your device (cached) but will not update unless you have a network connection either through your phone network provider or a wi-fi connection. GPS navigation systems may suggest taking routes that are impassible or unsafe. Many recreation areas do not have street addresses, which is why our app provides latitude and longitude coordinates.

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests feature nearly 867,000 acres across 26 counties, hundreds of miles of clear-running streams and rivers, 850 miles of recreation trails, and dozens of campgrounds, picnic areas, and other recreation activity opportunities. These lands are rich in natural scenery, history and culture. The mission of the USDA Forest Service is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests is part of the Southern Region, with the Forest Supervisor’s office in Gainesville, Georgia, managing four District units in Blairsville (Blue Ridge District), Lakemont (Chattooga River District), Chatsworth (Conasauga District), and Eatonton (Oconee District).
